Cancer season has arrived with that particular softness that only this time of year brings. After the quick, scattered energy of Gemini, everything has slowed right down. It feels less like a season for reaching outward and more like one for turning inward, back towards home, family and whatever it is that actually makes you feel safe.
I have been particularly enjoying having a cottage in the Cotswolds, surrounded by friends and family, in the place I grew up. There is something so nurturing about being close to your family and my mum again and out of London for long weekends, really able to enjoy the spoils of nature this season has to offer. The sound of the church bells, the early morning dawn, the scent of the roses, the owls hooting at night; it is quite magical I feel very blessed.
CANCER: THE NURTURER
Cancer is a cardinal water sign, ruled by the Moon, and its symbol is the crab: soft on the inside, protected by a hard shell. Where Gemini moves through ideas quickly and lightly, Cancer moves through feeling, slowly and deeply. This is the sign of home, family, memory and belonging. Its gift is intuition, the ability to sense what is needed before it is said out loud, and a devotion to the people and places it loves that runs quietly but very deep.
THE LUNAR PICTURE THIS SEASON
Cancer season opened with a Full Moon in Capricorn on 29 June, a grounding, practical energy asking us to take stock of what we have actually built this year. A New Moon in Cancer follows on 14 July, and this one is worth paying attention to. New Moons in Cancer are especially potent for intentions around home, family and emotional security, the very things this sign cares about most. Mercury is also retrograde in Cancer through until 23 July, which tends to stir up old conversations and unresolved feelings rather than new ones. If people or memories from the past resurface this month, that is exactly what this transit is here to do.
THE SHADOW SIDE OF CANCER
Every sign has one, and Cancer's shows up as retreat. The same sensitivity that makes this sign so intuitive can tip into moodiness, over-protectiveness, or pulling back into the shell rather than saying what is actually needed. Old hurts can resurface and be held onto for longer than they need to be. The invitation this season is to let yourself feel deeply without disappearing into it, to let the people who love you in rather than closing the door quietly and hoping they notice.
DREAMS: THE SCENT FOR THIS SEASON
If I were choosing one fragrance for Cancer season, it would be Dreams without hesitation. It is grounding and clearing, the kind of scent that fills a room with the feeling of home rather than simply perfuming it. Light it when you need to feel held, or when you are creating a space for someone else to feel that way too.
A SIMPLE RITUAL FOR THIS SEASON
Around the New Moon on the 14th, take a few quiet minutes at home. Light your Dreams candle, and write down what safety and belonging actually look like for you right now, not what they are supposed to look like. Let old feelings surface if they need to, without rushing to fix or explain them. Then let them settle.
Be soft. Be protected. Let home be wherever that softness lives.
With love, Tilly x
