Exquisitely presented in hand-blown black or white glass vessels, Aja Botanicals’ design-led candles are intended to become a permanent feature of your home decor, so being able to refill them once they’re empty is a must.
‘The glass vessels represent wonderful craftsmanship, so we wanted people to be able to hold on to them,’ explains Aja Botanicals founder Tilly Wood. ‘But there are only so many vases and pen pots you can make out of empty jars,’ she laughs.
Just like our hand-poured candles, Aja Botanicals candle refills are hand-crafted in Britain using high-quality essential oils and a natural wax blend made from coconut, soya and beeswax, so you are guaranteed the same ultra-clean burn every time.
With our roots in the natural world, Aja Botanicals is committed to being as waste-free as possible. Key to this is exploring more sustainable packaging options, and we’re delighted to introduce natural packaging made from mushroom mycelium and hemp for our candle refills, which has been specially moulded to protect the delicate contents. Made by a leading British manufacturer of biodegradable packaging, the innovative product can even be home-composted. ‘You can simply break it up and throw it in the garden or in the food compost,’ says Tilly.
While it was important to keep packaging materials to a minimum for our refill range, presenting them in a beautiful way was just as important. This is evident in the (fully recyclable) packaging for the outer sleeve for the candle refills, which feature our original pastel artworks by illustrator Chiara Perano, reimagined as an elegant, embossed design in black or white.
The refill range is available in all four nature-inspired Aja Botanicals fragrances – the warm and woody Into the Mystic, the fresh and herbaceous Dreams, the alluring and floral Hello, I Love You and the sensual and smoky Walk on the Wild Side. The custom-made candle refills come in two sizes – single-wick and three-wick – and in a choice of black or white.
Being able to enjoy Aja Botanicals candles in a more sustainable and affordable way was always part of the plan, according to Tilly, with all products designed to have a long life cycle. So, once you’ve found the perfect spot in your home for your Aja Botanicals candle, you can keep it there and simply refill it over and over again.
‘It’s like buying a beautiful item of clothing – a well-made investment piece that you’ll keep forever,’ says Tilly. ‘In the words of Vivienne Westwood, “Buy less, choose well, make it last!”’
