'On fire energy, spring clearing and finding the balance.'
Two weeks into Aries season and I already need a lie down. Between caring for nine six-week-old puppies now finding their feet and their voices, and that first hit of spring fire energy sending me into a flurry of bold moves and long-overdue clear outs, it has been a lot. Especially after what feels like the longest winter of hibernation.
The lighter mornings are here. The blossom is appearing. The first shoots of my favourite bluebells are pushing through. And while that unmistakable feeling that things are beginning to move again is very welcome, I am also very much learning that Aries energy needs handling with care.
And so it begins.
Into the Fire
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, ruled by Mars, a fire sign, all instinct and forward motion. After the dreamy inward pull of Pisces, Aries wants us to stand up and move. As much as I'm leaning into the momentum of the season, I'm now also giving myself permission to slow back down, to pamper a little, to rest before the next push.
If you want to go deeper into the astrology of the season, Kirsty Gallagher is always such a fascinating guide.
A Little Watch Out...
Aries energy is wonderful, but it has a shadow side worth knowing about.
Rushing. The urge to start everything at once and finish it all by Tuesday. Aries can tip into impatience quickly. If you notice yourself forcing things or feeling frustrated that they're not moving fast enough, that's the signal to slow down, not speed up.
Starting without sustaining. Fire signs are brilliant at ignition. Less brilliant, sometimes, at the long middle. Try picking one thing to begin this season and giving it your real attention, rather than scattering energy across ten new ideas.
Burning out. All that forward momentum needs balance. This is a yang season, and yin moments matter. The slow walk, the quiet evening, the practice that brings you back into your body rather than pushing it further.
The Moons This Season
The Pink Full Moon, in Libra, 2nd April. Libra is Aries' opposite sign, which makes this an interesting one. Where Aries is all self and instinct, Libra asks us to consider others and find balance. This full moon is a beautiful moment to pause and ask honestly where your scales have tipped. That might mean you've been over-giving, saying yes when you mean no, or keeping the peace at the cost of your own wellbeing. Or it might be the opposite, that Aries energy has had you charging ahead a little too independently, not considering those around you. It's different for everyone. It's also a powerful time for releasing what's no longer serving you and reconnecting to yourself. What do you actually need right now? Full moons have a way of showing you exactly what's ready to be let go of. Light a candle, sit with it, see what surfaces.
New Moon in Aries, 17th April. The most powerful new moon of the astrological year for new beginnings. Aries energy is bold and instinctive. It wants you to act on what you already know rather than wait until you feel ready. This is the moon that says stop waiting and start.
Spring Clearing
One of the oldest ways of marking this season is spring clearing. Not the anxious, list-driven kind, but the physical kind. Opening windows, letting go of what accumulated over the winter. As the physical declutters, the mental can clear too.
The daily cleaning that comes with nine puppies has actually felt quite wholesome. Getting small tasks completed is so rewarding, and sweeping the outdoor puppy pen is taking me right back to my childhood, caring for my ponies. There is something really warming about caring for an animal, just as there is when you care for a loved one, your plants, or your garden.

Simple Ritual for the Aries New Moon on 17 April.
Light your candle and sit for five minutes before you reach for your phone or your to-do list. Watch the flame. Let the scent settle around you. Fragrance moves you from thinking into feeling faster than almost anything else.
Then write one line. Not a list, just one line that begins with This season, I am...
Say it out loud while you watch the flame giving power to your intentions.
I've been reaching for Dreams in the mornings. That fresh, outdoor clarity feels made for new beginnings. In the evenings, when I want to relax Into the Mystic brings me home with its forest notes of cedarwood and oakmoss.
Fire is beautiful and life-giving but it needs tending. This season I want to feel energised and alive to it all, without tipping into frantic so am working on finding that balance, as always.
Come and tell us what you're beginning over on Instagram. We'd love to know.
