Wild Power: A cyclical path to transformation

Wild Power: A cyclical path to transformation

For many women, the menstrual cycle is still framed as a limitation rather than a true source of inner guidance. Wild Power, by Alexandra Pope and Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer, offers a radically different view—it reframes the cycle as a rich, cyclical path to creativity, clarity and transformation. It introduces the idea of menstruality: not just biology, but a spiritual and energetic map to living well in harmony with your natural rhythms.

Wild Power outlines four distinct phases—menstrual, follicular, ovulatory and luteal—each with its own energetics and tasks. These reflect nature’s seasons within us: winter invites rest, spring sparks initiation, summer enlivens expression, autumn calls for surrender and recalibration.

These maps guide women to honour their changing needs: slowing down during menstruation, embracing energy during the follicular rise, expressing in ovulation and turning inward in the late luteal phase. One part that really resonates with us is the idea of “architect mode” in the premenstrual phase—a time when focus, structure and organisation come naturally. Rather than resisting this energy, the book invites us to use it.

At Aja Botanicals we believe scent is more than a moment—it can be an anchor for intention and emotional subtlety. Pairing fragrance with the phases of your cycle offers a small but potent tool for reflection and alignment:

- Menstrual phase: lavender and cedar to ground and restore. Try Into the Mystic.
- Follicular phase: citrus and green florals to lift and energise. Try Hello, I Love You
- Ovulatory phase: jasmine and frankincense to express and connect. Try Walk On The Wild Side.
- Luteal phase: angelica and spikenard to destress and soothe. Try Dreams.

These scent pairings are intuitive invitations, not rules. They honour each phase without pressure, gently guiding you back to your body and your senses.

Being in sync with our hormones isn’t just about health—it’s a luxury of truly knowing and honouring ourselves. It feels rich, thoughtful, deeply personal. It’s poetry in action.

Wild Power offers the map. Aja Botanicals offers scent as a companion.

“I think what I really love about Wild Power is how it teaches you to actually use the energy of your cycle. Like that premenstrual phase—what they call 'architect mode'—is when you just get everything done. You’re focused, organising, structuring things.

Then, during your period, you move into a more inward, intuitive place. A kind of quiet that asks you to rest and go slower.

Coming out of that, it’s like spring—you feel lighter, more open, ready to communicate. And then ovulation is your sociable time, when you're outward-facing and magnetic.

It’s not about doing less—it’s about working with your energy instead of against it. When you know where you are in your cycle, you can shape your life around it in a way that actually gives you more power.”
